Just heard about the death of Jimmy Giuffre. Coming on the heels of Humph's death, it's a good time to remember the very different contributions these men made to jazz. Apprentice has two clips of Humph, and here's my tribute to Jimmy Giuffre.
This is from the start of the film Jazz on a Summer's Day, and it influenced a certain Edinburgh teenager to take up clarinet and sax.

Good to know about this, I didn't know him.
Considering another great artist, who died some years ago, piano this time, how do you feel about Michael Petrucciani? I think I have all his records available in Italy. There's a tremedous heart and skill and a powerfully fast phrasing in his perforamnces.
